I moved to Alaska when I was only a few years old, and with the exception of 5 years I spent satisfying wanderlust, I’ve been here since. Thirty of my years, that’s three quarters of my life, have been lived here in the Fairbanks area. I first came out when I was 18 during my last semester of High School (I did a lot of show choir, which was *not* cool before ‘Glee.’) and have since kept up on live vocal performance off and on over the years and have been re-incorporating it into my routine, though it wasn’t until a couple of years after graduation that I got into drag performance. I was heavily involved in the Music, Drama and Art programs in school and tried to continue my passion for creating after graduation, but I quickly discovered that college was not for me – the fiercely competitive nature of academia was stifling and I burned out after one semester with only mediocre grades to show for it. I decided that taking out student loans when I wasn’t excited about the idea of college was an exercise in stupidity, so I spared myself the expensive mistake and found success in the customer service industry instead.
In addition to live vocals and relaying hilarious stories from my misadventures, I also do a lot of graphic design – including advertisements for events, photo touch ups and edits. Recently, I’ve been working on audio production – creating custom remixes and mashups for use at events in the course of performance or just as part of the dance track library.
In 2011, I was crowned Grand Duchess XVII (17) of Fairbanks within the Imperial Court of All Alaska (The Alaskan chapter of the International Imperial Court System) and in 2016 I co-founded the Haus of Ursa Major with two fellow Alaskan Drag Performers – Vivi Sexxion and Kat Asse-Trofee. The Haus lasted for just over three years before inner turmoil drove me to disband it. After taking some time to myself to focus on my personal life, I returned to performing as a guest of Klondike Drag and mentored another entertainer as they assumed the mantle of Duchess within the ICAA – in the fall of 2023, at the completion of the previous reign, my appointment to the post of Regent Duchess XXVI of Fairbanks was approved by the ICAA Board of Directors. I served out that term and afterward ran for (and won) a position on the Board of Directors, during which time I also served as Chair of the Bylaw & Policy Review Committee.
In my early 30’s, I suffered complete renal failure and had to undergo dialysis for a few years until I moved up the transplant list and received a life-saving organ transplant in the spring of 2017. Due to the nature of my condition, I am medically disabled. While I work part-time to be able to support some of my expenses, I don’t seek out performance opportunities for the money. Most of the time, I collect enough of a fee to offset/reimburse the costs associated with drag, design and event planning, but I’m not motivated to turn a profit. I do what I do because I love it, and I get to be selective about who I work with.
Currently, I’m using my platform to advocate for the LGBTQIA community in the face of rising anti-LGBTQ attitudes fueled by the current Presidential Regime.
My drag is a self-funding activity; the meager amount I make from tips at shows go towards maintaining this website and a VPN — whatever remains gets spent on lashes, foundation, tights and press-on nails. I’m not interested in making ‘real’ money at drag, I’m not trying to monetize everything in my life so it becomes a joyless grind.
Take it from someone that very nearly died; nobody on their deathbed wishes they would have worked more.
XoXo
